Mixed Emotions In Bear Country

Rubatex Msds I'm guessing we shouldn't be misled by what, thus far, appears to be minimal negative reaction to the state's decision to allow a black bear hunt. The anti- hunt forces probably haven't fully mobilized their counterattack.

Bear in mind when you submit information to us, or participate in or use any or all of the activities, services, features or functions of our Service.

Rubatex Neoprene Rest assured they will. Just look at the numbers that mobilize against deer hunts or against killing Canada geese -- another species whose numbers apparently have grown beyond our ability to tolerate them (or, more specifically, their droppings). So surely bears, too, will have more vocal defenders as the first scheduled hunt approaches.

Bear Country Bedding Bear Country Bedding The Bear Country Bedding Collection has a luxuriant border print design with panoramic scenes of playful brown bears romping through mountain forests, accompanied by a cozy hunter green plaid in 100% cotton duck. Contrasting sheet set picks up soft gold tones found in the comforter to add to the sense of rich, luxuriant color and texture. Click on images for pricing.

Rubatex Pipe Then again, perhaps not. Bears are much bigger than deer or geese and, no matter how cuddly that teddy may be to a child, that frightening image of an angry grizzly is what keeps the night-light industry thriving.

A mix of prairie house tomboy and New England seaside charm, Borne is timeless style and an easy to wear refuge from fleeting trends that can be too outlandish. Close this window Expanded_arrow Collapsed_arrow About Borne Borne Dedalus Smock Borne Dedalus Smock Pix Borne Dedalus Smock $238 $119

Rubatex Pipe Insulation Still, the bears in New Jersey aren't grizzlies. They're black bears, a smaller species that doesn't see people as dinner but as something to avoid. The problem is that their growing numbers are bringing them into more populated areas and making them less timid. A hunt would be a pre-emptive strike, reducing their numbers before we start hearing about encounters that turned tragic.

At present around 50 of these bears are in captivity across the country, used as hotel and restaurant roadside attractions, private zoo exhibits, or for tourist photos.

Rubatex 180 Last winter, my neighbor returned home one afternoon to find the galvanized pole that holds his bird feeder bent clear to the ground. Never actually saw the culprit, but there's only one species that could do that. And we're just five miles outside Morristown.

This depends on the carrier and service you choose, but as a guide, 4 days When purchasing goods for delivery overseas, you may be subject to import duties and taxes which are levied once the package reaches your country. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. Additionally, please note that when ordering from Blackleaf, you are considered the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you are receiving the goods.

Rubatex 180 Fs Should we kill a usually harmless creature just because it's in our way? I suspect many people are of mixed mind on that. Diane Kirker certainly is. She lives in Sussex County's Hampton Township -- smack in the middle of New Jersey's bear country.

Rubatex 1800 Kirker loves seeing the cubs in the spring -- and she's driven nuts by their refusal to leave her garbage alone. She's also a little tired of looking left and right when she leaves her home, but an incident a year ago nearly left her on the wrong side of a locked front door -- 10 feet from a bear.

Rubatex 320 "Just as I was pulling the door closed, I spotted it right behind my car," she recalls. Had she closed the door, it would have automatically locked behind her. "That made me realize I have to keep my eyes open, be aware and careful."

Rubatex 373 Stoically accepting that the bears "were here before I was," Kirker says she has resigned herself to the reality that her property is basically "theirs, not mine." To that end, she and her husband have resorted to taking their garbage to the local dump instead of leaving it curbside.

Rubatex Rubber "I'd bring it out as late as 9:30 a.m., and within five minutes it would be all over the front lawn," she says. If she forgets to put the garbage in her husband's pickup, "I wait until I hear the garbage truck backing down the street before I take it out."

Rubatex Tape Another accommodation is to refrain from putting up bird feeders until the bears are in hibernation. ("Every bear they've ever had to kill up here has been filled with birdseed when they opened it up.") And when she wants to bake, she closes her windows.

Rubatex Closing But when she hears stories about bears trying to get in back doors, Kirker wonders if there really can be peaceful coexistence between Homo sapiens and Ursus americanus.

Rubatex Closed Cell Gasketing Not that she's ever felt genuinely threatened.

Felpro Gaskets "They're pretty timid, actually, and they usually run if you make a noise," she says. "But they're definitely more aggressive when they have babies with them. If they see you, they pound their front feet on the ground."

Poly Products Supplies But she loves watching them from her window.

Poly Hunting Feeders "They jump in my hammock," she says, laughing. "They love to play there." And she recently watched two cubs playing in a pine tree while their mother impatiently waited for them to come down.

Shoreline 13171 17 Neoprene "You could tell she was irritated," Kirker says. "She was like, don't make me come up there!"

Neoprene Pads But adorable though the cubs may be, even at "the size of a medium dog, their claws are already 4 to 5 inches long."

Neoprene Seat Covers Kirker is not enthusiastic about a hunt, but she's not altogether opposed.

Rubber Manufacturer "If we're tempting them just by living here, that's not a good thing," she says. "The area I live in is pretty wooded, and they walk up the middle of the street to get from one patch of woods to another. The males weigh 400 pounds -- and I think we have one that's even bigger than that. The females are a little smaller. But any way you look at it, they're impressive -- and a little scary."
