The MiniBic is the only board designed and built specifically for children who weigh less than about 70 pounds. It has a fin forward (in the profile of a friendly dolphin) rather than a centerboard, and it comes in durable poly construction. While many poly boards are heavy, the MiniBic is small enough that its weight is quite manageable. The standard rig is light and simple - two sail sizes are available - and detail components like the mast foot and universal joint are well-thought-out.
