Big Pitch Tube
Big Pitch Tube

Pitch baiting - everybody's doing it.
Rubatex Msds Several years ago I wrote a tip showing a small Tupperware pitch-bait tube for ballyhoo. Small office supply suction cups and 2-quart capacity worked great for the small stuff. After many seasons of using a 5-gallon bucket for the big pitch, I saw room for improvement. I was tired of throwing bent baits in the water and chasing the sliding bucket around on rough days. I came up with this idea for a tube to hold my big baits which stays put against a bulkhead and takes up very little space in the cockpit.

Rubatex Neoprene The marine/hardware store parts needed include: 24-inch section of 4-inch-diameter PVC tube, end cap for 4-inch tube, one "Hold Tight" suction cup kit, a small stainless-steel machine screw and nut, and a tube of silicon.
Instructional booklet with detailed information and photos showing how to grip and throw each pitch.
Rubatex Pipe Glue the end cap on the PVC tube and seal with a bead of silicon. Spin a suction cup on one end of the yellow handle. With a hacksaw, cut the yellow plastic handle that comes with the "Hold Tight" kit flush with the edge of the rubber suction cup. This leaves a threaded male plug of yellow plastic in the rubber suction cup. Remove this plug and drill a hole in its center to accommodate the machine screw. Drill another hole about three-quarters of the way up from the bottom of the PVC tube where the suction cup is to be attached. Thread the screw on the threaded plug and attach to the PVC with the nut, all parts generously dabbed with silicon.
When you buy conventional fluorescent tubes, be sure to get the "high accuracy" type for good color temperature. At most store displays, laminated cards carry the relevant information about every type of tube sold.
After overnight drying, spin on the rubber suction cup, fill with sea water and a fresh bait, and serve. This tube is slender enough for baits to sit without being bent over and deep enough to accommodate more than one at a time. All that in a clean custom package that can be painted to match the boat.
