Eidos In News Corp's Sights?
A while back, GCA ran a story about News Corp, the media company owned by Rupert Murdoch (and also the parent company of Fox) was looking to jump into the video game business by purchasing either a major or tier-2 style publisher. The original story featured a tentative list of publishers that the company had in mind. It appears today that they have made their decision.
According to numerous reports, most of which originated from an article run by GamesIndustry.biz earlier today, News Corp is planning to purchase Eidos. According to the article, a deal could be announced within a week's time. Reportedly, sources within the Eidos are glad that the News Corp news is out in the open now.
"Everyone within Eidos knows that when it gets sold, it's going to be sold as a group with a new flag on it," GamesIndustry.biz was told by a source at the company. "It's not going to be broken up in the same way Criterion was."
It appears that this deal will be a win-win situation for both parties involved. GCA will be keeping a close eye on what happens with this story.
