We test hundreds of boats, which means we test hundreds of stereo systems too. The quality by brand ranges from poor to outstanding, and Clarion units fall into that latter class. We have yet to see one fry under a full-face splash test, unlike some brands we've tested. The XMD3-RET is at the crest of Clarion's high-end AM/FM/CD head units. It's made specifically for the marine environment, with a water-resistant face plate and watertight CD door assembly backed by a rubber gasket.
