It doesn't take long to learn that traditional car speakers don't fare well in marine applications. Exposure to water, sand, salt and heat take their toll on speaker materials not intended to be outside.

Poly-Planar has developed a speaker called the MA 6900, and it's purpose-built for marine applications. The 200-watt speaker uses durable polypropylene main and midrange cones and a mylar tweeter. Low-profile stainless-steel grills snap to the front of the UV-stabilized plastic 3.25-inch-deep speaker frames. Electronic upgrades include specially coated wires for moisture protection, corrosion-resistant connections and stainless-steel mounting hardware. Suggested retail price for the 6-inch by 9-inch speakers is $289.95. Each pair is covered by a two-year comprehensive warranty.
