U.S. Toll-Free + 1-800-873-3507 ---------------------- Canada Toll-Free + 1-888-443-3847 pad BENEFITS Unsurpassed thermal comfort IPEX WarmRite Floor gently warms the surfaces of objects, as well as the air itself. Heat loss from occupants is reduced. In addition, the higher temperature near the floor keeps feet warm, while the slightly lower temperature towards the ceiling provides greater comfort at head level. In fact, rooms are generally comfortable at a 3Î to 5Î (2Ê to 3Ê) lower than conventional settings. Convenience With no dry, hot-air drafts to cause fluctuations in humidity and temperature, the system can be adjusted precisely as desired - virtually set it, and forget it. And there are no restrictions on room design or furniture placement. Aesthetically beautiful No unsightly heat emitters, such as radiators or air vents. Quiet A properly designed radiant system generates no noise from the operation of forced-air fans or the sound of rushing air. The only sound is from the operation of the gas or oil burner on the boiler. Clean In contrast to forced-air systems, no dust, odors or germs are distributed throughout the building. With hydronic radiant heating, only 5% of the heat transfer is by convection. Room air circulation is extremely gentle, and does not aggravate allergy or asthma symptoms. Improved air quality IPEX WarmRite Floor has been approved for use in the American Lung Association Health House Project. There's no ductwork where particulates can hide. And warm floors eliminate the need for carpets which can hold dust and allergens. Extremely energy efficient Because hydronic radiant heating creates less air temperature stratification, comfort is sustained at lower temperatures. In addition, rooms are not pressurized as with forced-air systems, so air/heat leakage is reduced. Even by conservative estimates, energy savings are from 10% to 20%. Some projects have shown savings as high as 50% over traditional heating technologies. Long-term durability Corrosion, impact, crush and pressure resistant, the Kitec XPA composite tubing used in WarmRite Floor radiant heating systems is virtually indestructible. In fact, in-slab floor installations are as durable as the slab itself. Higher property value Installed during new construction or retrofitted in older buildings, hydronic radiant heating is seen as a luxury feature. And because there are no air ducts or vent, ceilings can often be made higher. + Free Technical Support + Canadian Residents + Se Habla Espanol
U.S. Toll-Free + 1-800-873-3507 ---------------------- Canada Toll-Free + 1-888-443-3847 pad HISTORY Hydronic radiant heating systems, using wrought iron and steel piping, originated in the early 1900's. During the 1940's and 50's, many radiant floor systems incorporating copper tubing in concrete slabs found widespread application. Though crude by today's standards, these systems proved they could deliver unsurpassed comfort. Some of the early systems are still in operation. However, over time many of them deteriorated and developed leaks due to corrosion. As a result, consumer confidence declined and with the advent of air conditioning in the late 1950's, forced-air heating experienced a broad resurgence. What changed the situation was the development of a new tubing made from cross-linked polyethylene (PEX). First used in Europe, then brought to North America in the early 1980's, these PEX systems proved once and for all that hydronic heating could deliver superior comfort, along with ease of installation and long service life. Hydronic radiant heating was here to stay. Today, IPEX WarmRite Floor radiant heating products such as our Kitec XPA composite pipe and PEX tubing are revolutionizing the radiant heating industry - incorporating advanced construction materials and controls to deliver comfortable, quiet, energy-efficient heating for end-users in a wide range of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional environments. + Free Technical Support + Canadian Residents + Se Habla Espanol
U.S. Toll-Free + 1-800-873-3507 ---------------------- Canada Toll-Free + 1-888-443-3847 pad HOW IT WORKS In a hydronic radiant heating system, water is distributed through a balanced, closed-loop, embedded piping network - usually constructed from cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) or PEX-Al-PEX composite tubing - and warmed by an appropriate heat source connected to all system loads. Modern hydronics can use virtually any type of heat source, including conventional boilers, wood-fired boilers, condensing boilers, tank-type water heaters, geothermal heat pumps or even thermal energy storage tanks. In a typical application, the piping throughout the system warms the floor surfaces, which act as radiant panels to emit heat into their respective rooms. Because there is no forced-air component to the system, convection is minimized. 95% of the heat is transferred by the radiating warmth of water, warming the room from the floor upwards. Furthermore, because radiant heat does not require a medium for transmission, it is non-directional. All objects in the radiant path are warmed uniformly, regardless of direction or placement. With the IPEX WarmRite Floor system, all of the rooms can be heated from the same hot water source. A wide selection of heating controls are available which make it possible to independently adjust the warmth in any room. When the water heater is actually used to heat the water, the tank type water heaters are 40% to 60% energy efficient (the rest of the energy is spent to heat the exhaust and walls of the tank!), while tankless water heaters are 80% (gas) to 99% (electric) efficient. When you don't use hot water, you can save up to 15%-20% of your energy bill with the tankless water heaters, because tank type water heaters are subject to standby heat loss.
