News Corp. Looks To Make A Splash
News Corporation, owned by Rupert Murdoch, is already a tremendous media company. Apparently, the company that owns Fox and Sky News amoung others, is looking to make a serious foray into the gaming arena according to IGN and London's Financial Times.
The Financial Times reported that News Corp. COO, Peter Chernin, announced the company's intention to enter the video game business during an investment conference in Phoenix. News Corp. may be looking to make a huge splash with its entry into the market as well.
"We see [video games] as a big business and would like to get into it," Mr. Chernin said. "We are struggling with the gap between companies like Electronic Arts, which come with a high price tag, and the next tier of companies. These may be too focused on one or two product lines."
Mr. Chernin didn't say how much News Corp. would be willing to spend to enter the market place, but one of the second tier companies that the media giant has interest in is Activision. According to Mr. Chernin, News Corp. has been "kicking the tires of pretty much all video games companies."
GCA will definitely keeping an eye on this developing story.
